Xabi Alonso is said to be increasingly concerned about Real Madrid’s heavy reliance on Kylian Mbappé as their primary source of goals

primary source of goals

During the previous season, Mbappé found the back of the net 43 times across 56 matches, accounting for more than 30% of the team’s total goal tally. His influence was particularly significant in La Liga, where he was responsible for nearly 40% of Madrid’s goals, often breaking the deadlock—scoring the first goal in 15 of the 21 matches where he got on the scoresheet.
According to Marca, Alonso has reportedly expressed to his coaching staff that this kind of dependency on a single player is unsustainable and potentially risky for the team’s long-term success. To mitigate this, he intends to implement a more balanced attacking strategy in the upcoming season. The plan involves encouraging greater offensive contributions from key players like Vinicius Jr., Rodrygo, and Fede Valverde, all of whom possess the quality to share the goal-scoring responsibility. Additionally, promising young Argentine Franco Mastantuono is expected to be integrated more actively into the squad, potentially offering fresh energy and unpredictability to the attacking setup. Alonso’s goal is to foster a more versatile and less predictable offense—one capable of thriving even when Mbappé is neutralized or unavailable
