Wolves handed golden opportunity as Jorge Mendes client has his price dropped to £21m

The summer transfer window hasn’t taken off at Molineux just yet, but an ambitious move for one Portuguese international would show Wolves mean business.

Wolves’ only signing of the summer is Fer Lopez, who completed his transfer from Celta Vigo in June for around £20 million.

The Spanish playmaker hasn’t been followed by anyone through the door, though encouragingly, Wolves are reportedly close to signing two more players.

Fans are hoping one of those is Club World Cup star Jhon Arias as links to the 27-year-old emerged on Thursday, with Wolves preparing a bid for him.

Arias would be a quality Matheus Cunha replacement due to his incredible ball-carrying attributes, and Wolves could also use Jorge Mendes as a weapon to land another superstar.

Wolves should use Jorge Mendes contact to sign Francisco Conceicao

As part of the club’s restructuring, Domenico Teti became the new technical director to assist Vitor Pereira, and super agent Jorge Mendes returned to Molineux.

Mendes once played an influential role in landing top Portuguese talent at Wolves under Nuno Espirito Santo, and during a summer where Pereira is targeting players from Portugal, he can play a similar role once more.

With the Old Gold searching the market for a Cunha replacement, they should look no further than Porto winger Francisco Conceicao, who is one of Mendes’ clients.

According to Football Italia, Porto have lowered Conceicao’s asking price to £21 million this summer after spending last season on loan at Juventus.

The Italian giants are interested in taking the 22-year-old back to Turin temporarily with an option to buy clause included, although since they’re hesitating over a decision, surely Wolves have to swoop in.

Dave Edwards wants Wolves to sign a ‘technically gifted’ player to fill Cunha’s void, and on the evidence of Conceicao’s career so far, he’s someone who can produce magic in the final third.

Bruno Fernandes thinks Conceicao is ‘electric’

Wolves have a golden opportunity to use Mendes as a persuasive tool to land the blistering Portuguese talent.

The young winger predominantly operates on the right flank and is known for his incredible pace, with international teammate Bruno Fernandes lauding Conceicao as ‘electric’.

“Francisco had a very good game; he is an electric player, and without the ball, he works a lot,” Fernandes told Mais Futebo. “In reacting to loss he is very quick and is very well positioned.

“You can see that he was trained by his father, who cares a lot about these details. We want players who can provide different qualities so we can be complete as a group.”

As a direct, pacey and dynamic wide player, whose potential is limitless, paying around £20 million for his services would be a steal for Wolves.
