Tottenham have now ‘approached’ Premier League rivals over £25.6m-rated title winner

Tottenham are being linked with a move for a Premier League champion this summer.

Tottenham are now being linked with a move for a Liverpool attacker as they look to strengthen ahead of the new season. Spurs are in need of recruits aplenty as they look to make the big step up to Champions League football next season.

Injuries played a big part, but Spurs were nowhere near the standard of European qualification through the Premier League last season, and as well as competing well in the Champions League, that is where they will be expected to be come the end of the next season.

Thomas Frank has a big job ahead, and the club are going to have to hand him some significant signings to give him the best chance of success in his first season at the club. Spurs need another striker, and after Timo Werner’s failed loan move, they also need another winger, among other positions.

One player Tottenham are said to be interested in is Liverpool star Harvey Elliott, who is being linked with a move away from Anfield this summer. The Boot Room claim that Spurs have approached Liverpool over Elliott to see whether he will be available this summer.

Elliott struggled for regular game time last season, making just 18 Premier League appearances. He made 28 appearances in all, scoring five and assisting three. Elliott’s first team football is now likely to be reduced again following the arrival of Florian Wirtz for well over £100million. Elliott is currently valued at £25.6million by Transfermarkt.

Speaking after the season, before he went on to help England to under-21s European Championship glory, Elliott said: “It’s been hard with how much I’ve played. I’ve tried as hard as I could and whatever happens, happens. It’s about what’s best for my career. It’s about reflecting and seeing what I can do. I’m here at the moment and I’m focusing on the final game.”

Elliott said a late on in the season: “I hope that I can push on. This is my team, I am committed to them. It’s just a situation that is always going to have a lot of talk, I just need to think about what is best for my future, my career and as much as I want it to be here. Players go through ups and downs but at the end of the day you have to come out fighting and I think it is within myself to make it happen. So hopefully I can stay here for the rest of my career.”

Elsewhere, Liverpool boss Arne Slot said of Elliott’s situation: “Harvey is one of the players that hasn’t had as much playing time as he maybe deserves. The first part after he came back from his injury, he wasn’t the same as he was before. The last few months he’s back to his old level again. That tells you that we like – I like – him more now than I did when he came back from his injury in the first month.”
