Sources: Liverpool in talks & keen to accelerate £35m transfer deal ASAP

Liverpool are intensifying their pursuit of Marc Guehi, with fresh talks ongoing between the Reds and Crystal Palace over a potential summer transfer. The England international has emerged as a top target for Arne Slot, but a deal is proving difficult to finalise.

Well-placed sources have revealed that Guehi is keen on the move to Anfield, seeing it as a major step forward in his career. However, the two clubs remain some distance apart when it comes to agreeing on a fee.

Crystal Palace, aware of Guehi’s importance to their defence, are holding out for a figure in the region of £45–50 million. Liverpool, on the other hand, value the player closer to £35–40 million and are hoping that Palace will lower their demands.

The situation is complicated by the fact that Guehi has just one year left on his current contract. This means he could leave Selhurst Park for free next summer, putting Palace in a weaker negotiating position.

Even so, Palace boss Oliver Glasner may decide it is better to keep Guehi for one more season rather than lose him now for a reduced fee, especially with limited time to find a quality replacement.

For Liverpool, the need to strengthen at centre-back is urgent. With Ibrahima Konaté also in the final year of his deal, there’s a growing concern that the Reds could lose both defenders within the next 12 months.

If Konaté were to leave on a free transfer next year, Liverpool could find themselves scrambling for a replacement in a competitive market—especially if Guehi also becomes a free agent and attracts interest from rival clubs.

That scenario is exactly what Liverpool want to avoid, which is why they are pushing to accelerate negotiations in the hope of concluding a deal before the transfer window closes.

However, unless one side compromises on their valuation, there’s a real possibility that the talks could drag on without a breakthrough. The coming days will be crucial in determining whether Guehi will swap Selhurst Park for Anfield this summer.

For now, the ball is in the court of both clubs—Liverpool are eager, Guehi is willing, but Palace are standing firm. Whether the Reds can strike an agreement or are forced to wait until next year remains to be seen.
