Scott McTominay Reflects on Manchester United Exit and Thriving Life at Napoli
Scott McTominay has broken his silence about his departure from Manchester United, shedding light on his emotions and experiences since leaving Old Trafford. Three months after his move to Napoli in a £25.7 million transfer, the midfielder has shared insights into his decision and life in Serie A.
McTominay, who spent 22 years at Manchester United, progressing through their academy and making 255 senior appearances, left the club under complex circumstances. Despite Erik ten Hag’s reluctance to part ways with the Scottish international, financial constraints driven by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules played a significant role in his exit.
In an exclusive interview with The Times, McTominay expressed his feelings about the transition while emphasizing his commitment to embracing his new chapter.
“No Looking Back”
The 27-year-old midfielder opened up about his mindset during the move.
“It was a massive decision,” McTominay admitted. “For me, my family, and everyone around me, it wasn’t easy. But at the end of the day, you have to ask yourself, ‘Is this what I want?’ The answer was yes, and once I made the choice, there was no looking back.
“I’ve always lived without regrets. That’s how I approach my life and career. My focus is on pushing myself to be the best version of a footballer and person I can be.”
Finding Success in Italy
Since joining Napoli, McTominay has made a flying start, with 10 appearances and three goals already to his name. His ability to tune out distractions has been a cornerstone of his successful transition.
“I avoid newspapers and social media altogether,” he said. “For me, the past is behind me. My focus now is on contributing to Napoli’s success, helping the team climb higher, and giving my all for my manager and teammates.”
Support and Gratitude
The midfielder credited his smooth adjustment to the strong support network around him.
“I’m lucky to have amazing people in my life who minimize stress—my family, friends, and my wonderful girlfriend. Moving abroad is a challenge, but the Italian people have been incredible. From helping me find a house to sorting out transport, they’ve been there every step of the way.”
A New Chapter with Promise
While McTominay’s departure marked the end of a significant era at Manchester United, his determination and positive attitude have set him up for success at Napoli. He remains focused on excelling in Italy and proving himself as an integral part of the Serie A giants’ midfield.
As he continues to thrive, McTominay’s story stands as a testament to resilience, adaptability, and the pursuit of new opportunities.
