Ruben Amorim makes huge Benjamin Sesko admission ahead of Fulham game

Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim has spoken openly about the club’s new striker, Benjamin Sesko, admitting that the Slovenian forward is even better than he initially thought. Ahead of United’s Premier League clash with Fulham, the Portuguese coach explained why he has to manage the 22-year-old carefully despite his obvious talent and long-term potential.

United fought off fierce competition from Newcastle United and other European clubs to land Sesko in a blockbuster £73.7 million move from RB Leipzig this summer. The highly rated striker arrived at Old Trafford with a reputation as one of the most promising young attackers in Europe, having scored 21 goals in 45 appearances for the German side last season.

Sesko made his Manchester United debut in the opening weekend of the Premier League against Arsenal, coming on as a second-half substitute in a tightly contested game. Although United fell to a 1-0 defeat and the forward was unable to make a decisive impact, Amorim insists his qualities were clear from the moment he joined training with the squad.

“I like to know the players well. I watch the videos, I study their movements, but when you see them live in training and on the pitch, it’s different. With Sesko, I felt he was even better than what I was expecting,” Amorim told Sky Sports. “He has the physicality, the awareness, and the hunger. It’s clear to me we’ve got a striker for the future.”

The United boss also emphasized the importance of patience with his new No.9. “I have to be careful,” Amorim said. “Sesko is going to be our striker for many, many years, but we need to make sure he settles down, stays calm, and enjoys his football. He’s very focused, almost obsessed with improving, which is a great quality but also something we must manage properly.”

Amorim went on to praise the squad depth United have built this summer, highlighting not just Sesko but also the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Diego Dalot’s continued progress, and Bryan Mbeumo. “I’m really happy, not just with him but with the other players we’ve added. We’re creating a foundation for the future, and Sesko is at the center of that vision,” he said.

Gary Neville, speaking separately on Sky Bet’s Stick to Football podcast, also shared his admiration for the new striker. “What I like about him is the variety in his finishing,” Neville explained. “When you watch his goals at Leipzig, he scores all kinds – headers, volleys, tap-ins, shots from outside the box. And let’s not forget, he’s 6-foot-5. That kind of presence can change games in the Premier League.”

The combination of Sesko’s height, athleticism, and technical ability is what has United fans excited about the future. At just 22 years old, the forward still has plenty of room to grow, but the expectation around Old Trafford is that he will eventually become the leading figure in the club’s attack.

For now, Sesko will be hoping to get more minutes under his belt when United face Fulham in their second league game of the campaign. Amorim is expected to gradually increase his role, allowing him to adapt to the pace and physicality of English football without overwhelming him in the early stages.

The manager’s cautious but optimistic words reflect a new philosophy at Old Trafford — building patiently for sustained success rather than rushing young talents into the spotlight. If Sesko continues to develop as Amorim and Neville suggest, United may well have secured their long-term replacement for the legendary strikers of the past.
