Robert Lewandowski Backs Joshua Zirkzee Amid Manchester United Struggles

Manchester United’s Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee has faced a challenging start at Old Trafford, managing only one goal since his summer move.

Despite criticism labeling him the “worst signing of the season,” Robert Lewandowski has expressed support for the young striker, emphasizing his potential if properly utilized.

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, Lewandowski highlighted Zirkzee’s unique qualities, stating, “He’s amazing with his back to the goal, holding the ball up and creating opportunities for teammates.”

The Polish striker praised Zirkzee’s ability to link up play, leverage his physical presence, and finish effectively in the box. However, he acknowledged the immense pressure of performing at a club like Manchester United.

Lewandowski added, “He’s not a typical goal-scoring striker but one who creates space and helps his team. With time and the right tactics, he can make a real impact.”

Ruben Amorim’s Challenge

The onus now lies on manager Ruben Amorim to integrate Zirkzee into his tactical framework. Amorim’s system, known for favoring direct, prolific strikers like Viktor Gyökeres at Sporting CP, could limit Zirkzee’s opportunities, especially with Rasmus Højlund fitting the manager’s preferred mold.

Zirkzee’s role at United remains uncertain, with rumors linking the club to Gyökeres potentially pushing him further down the pecking order. However, Lewandowski’s endorsement underscores that, with the right approach, Zirkzee could still thrive and prove his critics wrong.

For now, Zirkzee’s performances will need to improve if he hopes to solidify his place in Manchester United’s plans. Whether Amorim adapts his tactics to unlock the Dutchman’s potential remains to be seen.
