Released Stoke City man in talks over Huddersfield Town transfer

Huddersfield Town are currently in talks with recently released Stoke City man Lynden Gooch, Football League World are reporting.
Huddersfield Town are reportedly in talks to secure the services of former Stoke City man Lynden Gooch. The HTAFC target has spent the past two seasons with the Potters, though he recently left the club following the expiry of his deal.
The Terriers spent last season in League One following their relegation the previous term, however, the promotion favourites eventually finished in 10th place. The club’s ambitious ownership group are looking to improve upon their finish last year and have already invested heavily in the club’s playing squad.

Lee Grant, former assistant under Kieran McKenna at Ipswich Town, was appointed as the Yorkshire outfit’s new first-team manager at the beginning of the summer and has acted swiftly to bring in a number of targets.
Gooch looks as though he could be the latest addition to the Huddersfield Town squad, his acquisition offering an additional level of experience to the side, with hundreds of games at both League One and Championship level through previous spells with Sunderland and the aforementioned Stoke City under his belt.

Another Huddersfield Town addition
Huddersfield Town have caught the eye with a vast number of additions already, bringing in the likes of Ryan Ledson, Marcus Harness, Murray Wallace and Jack Whatmough, all from Championship sides. Defensive duo Sean Roughan and Joe Low arrived for undisclosed fees from Lincoln City and Wycombe Wanderers, respectively.
Last season’s star League Two goalkeeper, Owen Goodman, has joined on a loan deal from Crystal Palace and centre back Josh Feeney has joined on loan from Aston Villa, further strengthening Grant’s squad.

The Terriers’ total of incomings currently stands at eight, though the sales of Sorba Thomas and Brodie Spencer to second-tier sides may require replacements.
As for Spencer, a versatile wing-back and centre-back, the potential signing of Gooch could fill the void.
Gooch’s experience and abilities
Throughout his career, former USA international Gooch has operated in a variety of roles on the right hand side of the pitch. His earlier playing days at Sunderland saw him play in a more advanced role, on either the right wing or in attacking midfield.
However, with the Black Cats’ use of a back three system, Gooch found a home in the right wing-back role. This aided him in his move to Stoke City, where he offered the ability of covering across either flank in both defence and attack.
Across his two years with the Potters, the American made 53 appearances, whilst he racked up nearly 250 in a Sunderland shirt across seasons in the Premier League, Championship and League One. This wealth of experience could prove crucial to Huddersfield Town’s promotion bid.
