Real Madrid: Top 3 Contenders to Replace Militao, with Ramos Ruled Out
With Real Madrid facing the long-term absence of Eder Militao due to a severe knee injury involving a full cruciate ligament tear and meniscus damage, the club is actively seeking a new center-back for the winter transfer window. After a strong 4-0 win over Osasuna, Real Madrid’s lead remains at six points, bolstered by Barcelona’s recent loss to Real Sociedad. However, Militao’s injury casts a shadow over the team’s defense, prompting a search for reinforcements. Three key candidates have emerged as top priorities.
- Aymeric Laporte
The top target seems to be Aymeric Laporte. Despite his recent move to Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia for €27.5 million, the Spanish international remains a viable option due to his high-level experience and status as a European champion. Nevertheless, his €8 million annual salary and a transfer fee ranging from €15-20 million could complicate the deal. - Castello Lukeba
Another prominent target is Castello Lukeba, currently at RB Leipzig. Since his transfer from Lyon, the young French defender has become vital for the German club, making a mid-season move unlikely. His recent contract extension with Leipzig until 2029, coupled with a release clause of over €90 million for next summer, makes his current market value of €40 million a substantial financial hurdle for Real Madrid. - Jonathan Tah
Lastly, Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah, 28, is viewed as a lower-priority option. His contract ends in June 2025, which will allow him to negotiate with other clubs starting in January. Although he isn’t Real Madrid’s primary choice, his contract situation might pave the way for a move if Leverkusen opts not to extend his stay.
Real Madrid is exploring these potential avenues to cover Militao’s absence, though the winter transfer market presents its challenges.
