Real Madrid Legend Reveals Plans To Return to Club

Karim Benzema, a legendary figure in Real Madrid’s illustrious history, has expressed his deep desire to return to the club after retiring from professional football. The 2022 Ballon d’Or winner, who left the Spanish giants in 2023 after a glittering 14-year tenure, has hinted at a future role within the club that defined his career.
During his time at Real Madrid, Benzema transitioned from a promising young forward into one of the most respected strikers of his generation. His incredible journey saw him lift an astounding 25 trophies, including five UEFA Champions League titles, four La Liga crowns, and numerous individual accolades. His departure to Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia marked the end of an era, but his bond with Real Madrid remains as strong as ever.
Currently, the 37-year-old continues to showcase his talent in the Saudi Pro League. However, in a recent appearance on Los Amigos de Edu, a Spanish show hosted by journalist Edu Aguirre, Benzema provided insight into his post-retirement aspirations. The Frenchman made it clear that he envisions himself playing a role at Real Madrid once he hangs up his boots.
“When I retire, I want to be close to football,” Benzema revealed during the interview. His words carried a strong sense of nostalgia and commitment, hinting that his connection with Real Madrid goes beyond his playing days.
Benzema acknowledged that transitioning from a player to another role in football isn’t an easy task. “I don’t know, this is something that seems more complicated to me than being a player,” he admitted. However, his ultimate goal remains clear—staying close to Real Madrid, and more specifically, to club president Florentino Pérez.
“What I want is to be close to [Real Madrid President] Florentino [Pérez] when I retire. I was recently with him [Pérez] in Madrid,” Benzema shared. These comments sparked excitement among Madridistas, who would love to see their former captain involved with the club in any capacity.
Benzema also revealed details of his conversation with Pérez before his departure from Real Madrid. “Florentino was the first person I called when I decided I was leaving,” he said. The striker admitted that Pérez initially struggled to comprehend his decision, but Benzema reassured him that the club’s new generation, led by Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo, was ready to take over.
“The truth is that he didn’t quite understand it, but I told him that youngsters like Vinícius and Rodrygo were already ready,” he explained. This statement showcased Benzema’s selfless nature, as he believed it was the right time to step aside and let the new stars flourish.
Despite leaving Real Madrid, Benzema has remained in contact with Pérez and key figures at the club. His presence at recent events in Madrid only fueled speculation about his eventual return in an official role. Whether as a coach, ambassador, or advisor, the Frenchman’s knowledge and experience would be invaluable to Los Blancos.
Benzema’s departure from international football in 2022 was another significant moment in his career. After representing France for over a decade, he bid farewell to Les Bleus, having scored 37 goals in 97 appearances. His final outing for the national team came shortly before the 2022 FIFA World Cup, marking the end of an era for French football.
While he didn’t specify what role he envisions at Real Madrid, Benzema’s comments left no doubt about his passion for the club. Many former players, including Zinedine Zidane, have successfully transitioned into key roles at Madrid, and Benzema could follow a similar path.
For Madridistas, the prospect of Benzema returning in any capacity is an exciting one. He was not just a prolific goalscorer but also a leader who helped shape the team’s modern success. His influence on younger players like Vinícius, Rodrygo, and even Jude Bellingham was evident during his final seasons.
Benzema’s intelligence on and off the pitch makes him an ideal candidate for a post-playing role at the club. Whether he takes up coaching, a directorial position, or becomes a club ambassador, his return would further strengthen the club’s deep-rooted legacy of bringing back its legends.
Florentino Pérez has a history of keeping strong ties with Real Madrid icons, as seen with Zidane, Raúl, and others. If Benzema desires a role at the club, there’s a strong possibility that Pérez would welcome him back with open arms.
The next few years will be crucial in determining Benzema’s post-playing path. While he remains focused on his current career in Saudi Arabia, his heart seems to be set on an eventual homecoming to the Santiago Bernabéu.
Benzema’s words have ignited a wave of anticipation among fans. The thought of the French legend returning to the club he gave everything for is an emotional one. Madridistas will undoubtedly keep a close eye on his journey, hoping that his next chapter is once again written in the famous white of Real Madrid.
