Real Madrid expected to make 2nd offer for Trent Alexander-Arnold
Real Madrid is preparing a second bid for Liverpool’s right-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold, after their initial offer was rejected. The Spanish club’s first proposal, reportedly around £20 million, was immediately turned down by Liverpool, who are determined to retain their star defender.
The urgency for Real Madrid stems from injuries to their regular right-back, Dani Carvajal, and his backup, Éder Militão, leaving a significant gap in their defense. Head coach Carlo Ancelotti is keen on securing Alexander-Arnold to strengthen the squad.
Despite the interest from Madrid, Alexander-Arnold has shown no inclination towards a January move. Liverpool, currently leading the Premier League, view him as integral to their title ambitions and are in ongoing negotiations to extend his contract, which is set to expire in six months.
Real Madrid’s strategy appears to be testing Liverpool’s resolve, possibly aiming to secure Alexander-Arnold on a pre-contract agreement for a summer move if a January transfer proves unfeasible. However, Liverpool’s firm stance suggests they are unwilling to part with their academy graduate mid-season.
The situation has garnered attention from football analysts, with some suggesting that Real Madrid’s interest could inadvertently strengthen Alexander-Arnold’s position in contract negotiations with Liverpool. Nonetheless, a mid-season transfer remains unlikely, given the player’s importance to Liverpool’s current campaign.
As the January transfer window progresses, it remains to be seen whether Real Madrid will increase their offer or shift focus to alternative targets. Meanwhile, Liverpool supporters will be hopeful that Alexander-Arnold commits his long-term future to the club, continuing his pivotal role in their pursuit of silverware.
