‘Rangers well placed to re-sign Josh Windass after Sheffield Wednesday claim’

Rangers are well placed to take advantage of the turmoil behind the scenes at Sheffield Wednesday as they plot a move to re-sign Josh Windass.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson backed Russell Martin to land a deal for the 31-year-old as he continues to eye improvements to his squad in the transfer market.
With one year left on his contract and ongoing uncertainty at Hillsborough, Rangers have been backed to agree a deal which would work for all parties.
Martin is keen to strengthen his attacking options and add more goals to the squad amid speculation about the futures of Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane.
Windass’ 13 goals from an attacking midfield role last season, alongside his work ethic and reliability, are believed to have made him a key target at Ibrox.
The Wednesday star spent two years at Rangers between 2016 and 2018, and there is a belief he would be keen to return to Scotland this summer.

Rangers eye Josh Windass deal as 49ers back Russell Martin
New owners 49ers Enterprises have not been shy in the transfer market so far, having already brought in seven new players for Martin to bolster his squad.
This comes after Football Insider revealed last month that Rangers’ owners would make big transfer funds available for the manager this summer.
Robinson explained that the opportunity to sign Windass would be an “easy” one for Rangers to pull off, and he would add plenty to Martin’s side.
“It’s an easy pick, isn’t it? With the state of Sheffield Wednesday at the moment,” he told Football Insider.
“He’s only got one season left on his contract as well.
“He’s a player I like, he’s a grafter, he works extremely hard and you know what you’re going to get from him every single week.
“He scored 13 goals last season and seven before, so I wouldn’t see him as a replacement for the likes of Dessers or Igamane, he would play in a deeper role.
“When you look at the type of players Russell Martin is looking to bring in, Windass is the type of player you can look at in the dressing room and know what you’re getting from him.
“With Sheffield Wednesday in the state they’re in, it could be an easy pick for Rangers.
“It would be a good fit for both parties I think, and for Russell Martin, he can take advantage of what is a poor situation at Sheffield Wednesday.”

Djeidi Gassama update emerges as Wednesday pull the plug
Alongside their ambitions of signing Windass, Rangers are believed to be closing in on his Wednesday teammate Djeidi Gassama this summer.
However, Football Insider revealed on 11 July that Rangers’ deal for Gassama faces collapse as the Championship clubs could pull the plug on his departure.
The Ibrox club are still keen to push through the deal for Gassama, but Wednesday’s hierarchy are now having second thoughts on the move and it could see the switch fall through.
