Nasser Djiga to ‘seal Rangers transfer next’ after draw v Club Brugges

Rangers welcomed Club Brugges to Ibrox on Sunday to kickstart their new era after a summer of change.
Russell Martin’s side showed that despite promising signs in the 2-2 pre-season draw to the Belgians, they still need several defensive reinforcements.
The Gers have already signed Emmanuel Fernandez from Peterborough and are looking to add plenty of depth to their squad as the window progresses.
Nasser Djiga will likely have kept a close eye on proceedings at Ibrox earlier today.

Djiga likely to be announced early next week
Rangers’ comeback in their first pre-season game will be encouraging for Martin, but notable absentees highlighted how the former Southampton boss intends to put his stamp on the squad.
Robin Propper was selected over Ben Davies, with his future now in doubt, with exits still likely for both senior options in the coming weeks.
And according to David Edgar on X (6 July), Wolves enforcer Djiga is likely next to arrive at Ibrox early this week.
The 22-year-old moved to Wolves in the January transfer window after spending a year and a half at Red Star Belgrade.
He has found his game time limited at the Molineux, and now Djiga looks set to move to Ibrox on loan with no buy option.
The Burkina Faso international at 6’4″ offers physicality and composure, two values that Martin looks for in a ball-playing defender.
Rangers on track to challenge Celtic again this season
After finishing 17 points behind Celtic in the race for the Scottish Premiership title last season, Rangers could be back to challenging this term.
Club | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
---|---|---|---|
Red Star | 56 | 4 | 3 |
FC Basel | 22 | 1 | – |
Nîmes Olympique | 21 | – | – |
Djiga has provided an extra aerial threat
The expected signing of Djiga shows that the 49ers and Andrew Cavenagh are building a team that suits Martin’s style of football.
Djiga has shown in the past that he poses a threat in the air, and with James Tavernier and Joe Rothwell launching balls into the box, the 22-year-old will prove to be an important asset.
