Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been provisionally suspended after returning an adverse analytical finding in a doping test.

1 The news comes just days before Chelsea’s Premier League fixture against Everton. The Football Association (FA) has contacted the Ukrainian international following the analysis of a urine sample he provided.2

Official Statements from Chelsea and Mudryk:

Chelsea Football Club released an official statement acknowledging the situation:

“Both the club and Mykhailo fully support The FA’s testing programme, and all our players, including Mykhailo, are regularly tested.

3 Mykhailo has categorically stated that he has never knowingly used any banned substances.

4 The club and Mykhailo will now collaborate with the relevant authorities to determine the cause of the adverse finding. We will not be making any further comments at this time.”

Mudryk also issued a personal statement via social media:

“I can confirm that I have been informed that a sample I provided to The FA contained a banned substance.

5 This news is a complete shock to me as I have NEVER knowingly used any banned substances or violated any rules.

I am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened.

I am confident I have done nothing wrong and hope to return to the pitch soon.

Due to the confidentiality of the process, I cannot say more at this time but will provide updates when possible.”

Background and Context:

Mudryk joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 for a reported fee of £89 million.6 His last appearance for Chelsea was on November 28, where he scored in a 2-0 UEFA Conference League victory against Heidenheim.7 Since then, Chelsea has maintained strong form in the Premier League, closing the gap to league leaders Liverpool under manager Enzo Maresca.

The situation remains under investigation, and further information will be released as it becomes available.
