Mikel Arteta Warned: Three Teams ‘Better’ Than Arsenal
Arsenal’s resurgence under Mikel Arteta has drawn widespread praise, but former Gunners defender William Gallas has tempered expectations, claiming that Arsenal are still lagging behind Europe’s elite clubs. Despite back-to-back stellar seasons in the Premier League, amassing 84 and 89 points respectively, the Gunners remain in pursuit of their first league title since 2004.
While Manchester City’s dominance under Pep Guardiola has faltered this season, the competition remains fierce. Liverpool rejuvenated under Arne Slot, leads the Premier League with a blistering run of form, and Chelsea, with Enzo Maresca at the helm, has emerged as another formidable force, boasting the league’s highest goal tally.
Arsenal, meanwhile, have impressed in the Champions League, cruising past Monaco 3-0 to sit comfortably in the top three of the new league-phase format. Yet, Gallas believes their focus should remain on domestic glory.
“There are teams in the Champions League better than Arsenal,” Gallas told Prime Casino. “Liverpool, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich are ahead in terms of quality. Arsenal should prioritize the Premier League. This season is their best chance to win it because next year, the competition will only intensify with Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester City bouncing back stronger.”
After three consecutive league wins, Arsenal’s momentum stalled with a frustrating draw against Fulham. As they prepare to face relegation-threatened Everton at the Emirates, Arteta acknowledged the resilience of his former club.
“They haven’t lost their fighting spirit and togetherness despite challenges,” Arteta said. “Everton’s future looks bright, especially with their new stadium project.”
With growing pressure to deliver, Arteta faces a crucial juncture. Can Arsenal end their Premier League drought while remaining competitive on the European stage?
