Mathys Tel Drops Bombshell on Which Club He Wants to Join Out of Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Spurs
Bayern Munich’s highly-rated winger, Mathys Tel, is at the center of an intense transfer saga, with reports suggesting that the French prodigy has decided on his next destination. Despite links to several Premier League giants, including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur, fresh reports indicate that Manchester United have emerged as his preferred choice.
According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Tel has made up his mind about joining Erik ten Hag’s side. In a dramatic update shared on social media, Plettenberg revealed:
“Been told Mathys Tel has decided to join Manchester United with immediate effect. Concrete negotiations are underway between Bayern and MUFC.”
However, despite Tel’s eagerness to make the switch, Bayern Munich have so far resisted United’s initial approach. The Red Devils reportedly submitted a loan offer, which the Bundesliga club swiftly rejected. Bayern’s stance remains firm—they either want a permanent transfer or a loan deal with an obligation to buy.
This development comes at a critical time for United, who are actively seeking reinforcements in the final days of the January transfer window. Tel’s arrival would bolster their attacking options, particularly with Marcus Rashford rumored to be on his way to Aston Villa. United see Tel as a long-term investment, aligning with their strategy of recruiting young talents with high potential.
The timing of the news couldn’t be more significant, as it broke shortly after United’s disappointing 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford. The loss has once again highlighted the club’s need for attacking reinforcements, with Ten Hag pushing for reinforcements to revive their struggling campaign.
Despite being highly rated, Tel has struggled to find regular game time under new Bayern boss Vincent Kompany. The teenager has made 14 appearances this season but has yet to score a goal and has registered just one assist. His lack of opportunities has fueled speculation that a move away from Bayern is inevitable.
Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, recently hinted that Tel’s departure could be on the cards. Speaking to Sky Germany, he stated:
“It’s also about generating transfer revenue. Mathys is an incredibly sought-after player. Whether it will be a loan or a sale, we will discuss it in the coming days and hours.”
This statement suggests Bayern are open to negotiations but remain insistent on securing favorable terms. The Bavarians believe Tel’s potential is too valuable to let him go on a short-term basis without a long-term commitment from the buying club.
Arsenal, Chelsea, and Spurs remain interested in Tel, but United’s proactive approach has seemingly given them the upper hand. However, with Bayern still demanding a permanent transfer, it remains to be seen whether United will meet their financial expectations.
Adding further intrigue to the situation, renowned journalist Plettenberg provided insights into how Bayern fans feel about Tel. He described the young forward as a beloved figure at the club, stating:
“He is a great character. He is 19 years old but has learned to speak German very fast and very well. The fans love him. He is always friendly. He says hello to everyone working at the club and at the training ground, and to every fan.”
Despite this admiration from the fanbase, there is an understanding that Tel needs regular playing time to continue his development. With Bayern boasting an array of attacking options, his path to consistent minutes remains blocked.
For United, the appeal of signing Tel is clear. The club has prioritized young talents, as seen with the recent acquisitions of Ayden Heaven (18) and Patrick Dorgu (20). Tel fits this profile perfectly, and Ten Hag sees him as a player who can thrive under his tactical system.
While United remain the frontrunners, Arsenal’s interest cannot be ruled out entirely. The Gunners, who are also looking to strengthen their attacking options, have reportedly not given up on signing Tel. Bayern’s insistence on a permanent deal could play into Arsenal’s hands if they decide to make a late bid.
With just days left before the transfer window slams shut, the saga surrounding Mathys Tel is far from over. United may have won the player’s approval, but unless they meet Bayern’s demands, this transfer remains in limbo.
For now, Tel’s future hangs in the balance, but one thing is certain—his decision to leave Bayern could shape the trajectory of his promising career. Whether he ends up at Old Trafford or another Premier League club, his next move will be one of the biggest talking points of the January transfer window.
