Manchester United Will Sign 20-Year-Old Patrick Dorgu from Lecce for $31M, Reports Fabrizio Romano
Manchester United have reached an agreement to sign highly-rated left-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce for a fee of $31 million, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The deal marks another significant step in United’s summer rebuild under new manager Ruben Amorim, with the club addressing a crucial area that has plagued them over the past season.
Dorgu, a 20-year-old Danish international, has been one of the standout young full-backs in Serie A, impressing with his pace, technical ability, and attacking instincts. His performances for Lecce have caught the attention of several top European clubs, but United have moved swiftly to secure his services as they look to reinforce their left flank.
The left-back position has been a persistent issue for Manchester United, with injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia leaving the team vulnerable throughout the past campaign. The club was forced to rely on makeshift solutions, including playing right-back Diogo Dalot out of position and even deploying central defenders in the role. The signing of Dorgu provides much-needed depth and ensures that United have a reliable option in that position for years to come.
Fabrizio Romano reports that the deal is now at the “here we go” stage, indicating that personal terms have been agreed upon, and the transfer is set to be finalized. The Danish youngster has already completed the initial medical checks, and an official announcement from the club is expected soon.
Dorgu’s arrival aligns perfectly with Ruben Amorim’s tactical approach. The Portuguese coach prefers full-backs who are comfortable in possession, capable of overlapping to support the attack, and aggressive in pressing high up the pitch. Dorgu’s ability to drive forward with the ball and deliver accurate crosses will provide an additional attacking threat down the left-hand side.
His defensive attributes also make him a promising acquisition. While still young, Dorgu has shown remarkable composure in one-on-one situations and a strong work ethic in tracking back. Amorim is known for his emphasis on defensive discipline, and under his guidance, the Danish starlet could develop into a complete full-back.
United’s decision to invest in a young, talented full-back instead of an older, established name suggests a shift in strategy under the new INEOS leadership. Rather than short-term fixes, the club is focusing on long-term planning and player development, ensuring they build a squad capable of competing at the highest level for years to come.
With pre-season approaching, fans will be eager to see how Dorgu integrates into the squad. Given his attacking nature, he could form an exciting partnership with United’s wingers, adding more dynamism to the team’s play down the left flank. His presence will also allow Amorim to rotate Luke Shaw more effectively, reducing the risk of recurring injuries for the England international.
The signing of Dorgu is expected to be one of several moves in the transfer window as Manchester United look to reshape their squad. With the club also prioritizing reinforcements in midfield and central defense, this could be the beginning of an active summer at Old Trafford.
For now, the focus is on finalizing the deal and welcoming Dorgu to Manchester. If his development continues as expected, United may have found their long-term solution at left-back, finally addressing a problem area that has troubled them for too long.
