Liverpool Could Hijack Manchester United’s Pursuit of Alphonso Davies
Manchester United’s pursuit of a new left-back in 2025 could face a significant challenge from their Premier League rivals, Liverpool. Reports suggest that Liverpool are also interested in Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, a player who has been a long-term target for several top European clubs.
United manager Ruben Amorim has reportedly prioritized the acquisition of a left-back, with several names being linked to the club. One of those names was Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, however, it seems Liverpool are now in pole position for the player.
Alphonso Davies, whose contract with Bayern Munich expires at the end of the 2024/25 season, has also been on United’s radar. The Canadian international will be eligible to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs starting in January 2025.
This situation has alerted several clubs, including Liverpool. Bundesliga expert Christian Falk has revealed that Davies is open to leaving Bayern Munich and that his agent plans to meet with interested clubs in the new year.
Falk specifically mentioned Liverpool as a potential destination, stating that they “naturally have a chance” of securing Davies’s signature. He suggested that Liverpool’s style of play would be a good fit for the player.
However, Falk also indicated that Manchester United and Real Madrid appear to be the more serious contenders at this stage. Bayern Munich are still hoping to extend Davies’s contract and remain optimistic about reaching an agreement.
Former Manchester United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown has also confirmed Liverpool’s interest in Davies. He stated that Liverpool scouts have been watching the player and are evaluating his qualities.
Brown highlighted the attraction of signing Davies on a free transfer, given his high reputation. He also acknowledged the competition from other top clubs, particularly Real Madrid, who may have greater financial resources.
Despite the competition, Brown believes that Liverpool’s close attention to Davies suggests that they are confident in their ability to strike a deal. He also noted that Liverpool are looking to address their left-back position, with questions surrounding Andy Robertson’s recent performances.
The potential arrival of Davies at Liverpool would be a significant blow to Manchester United’s transfer plans. It would also be a major coup for Liverpool, securing one of the most talented young left-backs in world football.
This transfer saga is set to unfold in the coming months, with several factors potentially influencing Davies’s decision. The player’s contract situation, the interest from multiple clubs, and his personal preferences will all play a role.
For Manchester United, the prospect of losing out on Davies to their rivals adds further pressure to their pursuit of a new left-back. They may need to consider alternative targets if they are unable to compete with Liverpool’s interest.
The situation also highlights the competitive nature of the transfer market, particularly for highly sought-after players like Davies. Clubs must act quickly and decisively to secure their targets, as competition from other clubs can quickly change the landscape.
The coming weeks and months will be crucial in determining Davies’s future and whether Liverpool can successfully hijack Manchester United’s pursuit. This transfer battle is one to watch closely.
The outcome of this transfer saga could have significant implications for both Manchester United and Liverpool, as they look to strengthen their squads and compete for top honors.
