Kylian Mbappé Is a Liability: Real Madrid’s Growing Concerns Over the French Star

Real Madrid’s struggles in the Champions League reached a boiling point after their 2-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield, and the spotlight has firmly settled on Kylian Mbappé. With Vinícius Jr. sidelined and Rodrygo also unavailable, all eyes were on Mbappé to step up. However, the Frenchman has failed to deliver, leaving fans and pundits increasingly concerned about his form.

Despite nine goals this season, Mbappé has looked like a shadow of his former self. Club insiders believe the issue is psychological, with the player showing signs of lost confidence rather than physical decline. Reports from Real Madrid’s training sessions reveal Mbappé’s erratic finishing and reluctance to take decisive actions, reminiscent of Vinícius’s struggles during his early days at the club.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti remains optimistic but cautious, describing Mbappé’s slump as “transitory” and urging patience:

“He just needs to play simply. Confidence will return, but you can’t judge everything based on one missed penalty.”

However, patience may be running thin. Mbappé’s lack of defensive effort is compounding the team’s woes. Unlike Vinícius or Bellingham, who tirelessly press and recover possession, Mbappé’s carelessness often leaves his teammates scrambling to cover gaps. At Anfield, his turnovers repeatedly exposed the midfield and defense, overburdening players like Camavinga and Valverde.

With Real Madrid currently sitting 24th in the Champions League standings, their path to the knockout rounds has become anything but straightforward. Unless Mbappé can rediscover his spark, Real Madrid’s Champions League ambitions—and their long-term faith in their marquee signing—hang in the balance.
