Pep Guardiola has firmly dismissed any speculation regarding Kevin De Bruyne’s potential departure from Manchester City this summer. Despite the Belgian midfielder’s contract extending until 2025, and his earlier comments suggesting he wouldn’t rule out a future move, Guardiola has made it clear that De Bruyne will not be leaving the club before the transfer window closes on August 30.
In a press conference at North Carolina State University, held prior to City’s opening match of their U.S. tour against Celtic, Guardiola addressed the transfer rumors head-on. “Kevin is not going,” Guardiola asserted, quelling any doubts about the midfielder’s future. He emphasized his contentment with the current squad, expressing confidence that the core of the team will remain intact.
“I am delighted with the squad we have had for many years,” Guardiola continued.
Guardiola acknowledged the club’s strategic approach to the transfer market, stating, “We’ve made significant moves in the market over the years, and each situation is unique. I feel comfortable because the quality within our squad is not easily replaceable.”
Manchester City have recently bolstered their roster by signing 20-year-old Brazilian winger Sávio, who joins from Atlético Mineiro. Guardiola praised Sávio’s potential, highlighting his effectiveness in one-on-one situations.
Additionally, Guardiola confirmed that Kalvin Phillips, who spent last season on loan at West Ham United, has rejoined the first team and is currently training with the squad. This move is part of Guardiola’s strategy to refresh the team while maintaining stability.
