Joan Laporta Informs the Team’s Star That Staying Is No Longer in the Club’s Best Interest and Urges Him to Leave Immediately!

In a shocking development, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has told a key player that his time at the club is over. The decision comes amid growing concerns over the player’s role, fitness, and financial impact on the team. According to reports from *El Nacional*, Marc-André ter Stegen is the player in question. The German goalkeeper, once a pillar of the squad, is now seen as expendable following the arrival of new signing Juan García.
García reportedly joined Barcelona under the condition that he would be the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper. The club assured him of a starting role, prompting them to push Ter Stegen toward an exit. Persistent injuries and age-related concerns have raised doubts about Ter Stegen’s long-term reliability. While he remains a top goalkeeper, Barcelona’s management believes it’s time to move on.
Head coach Hansi Flick would ideally like both keepers, but the dynamics are complicated. Ter Stegen is unlikely to accept a backup role, especially with the 2026 World Cup approaching and Germany’s No. 1 spot up for grabs. Financially, Barcelona cannot justify keeping a high-earning player as a reserve. The club is actively seeking a transfer solution,
with Laporta and sporting director Deco working to facilitate a smooth departure. Several clubs, including AC Milan, Juventus, Marseille, AS Monaco, and Saudi Pro League teams, have shown interest in Ter Stegen. Barcelona is even open to a mutual contract termination if necessary. However, the biggest hurdle is Ter Stegen’s stance.
He wants to fight for his place in preseason and prove himself to Flick before making any decisions. With his contract running until 2028, the 32-year-old is also demanding significant compensation if he leaves, as he is unwilling to sacrifice the remaining years of his lucrative deal. Barcelona hopes to resolve the situation quickly, but Ter Stegen’s determination to stay could prolong the saga.
The coming weeks will be crucial in determining his future. If an agreement isn’t reached, the club may face an awkward standoff with a player who has been a loyal servant but is no longer part of their plans.
