“It’s not a topic at all for me” Arne Slot talking about Marc Guehi move by January

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has downplayed the likelihood of defensive reinforcements arriving in the January transfer window, despite ongoing speculation linking the club with Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi. Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Slot made it clear that future transfers are not currently a priority and expressed surprise at the continued questions surrounding potential center-back signings.
Slot emphasized that his attention is fully on the demanding fixture schedule ahead rather than recruitment discussions. He described the January window as “the last thing on my mind,” noting that Liverpool have numerous important matches before the market even opens. This stance reflects his belief that the existing squad remains capable of meeting the immediate challenges.
Addressing concerns over defensive depth, Slot insisted that Liverpool already possess sufficient cover at center-back. He stated that the team has “three centre-backs” available and even suggested that midfielders such as Ryan Gravenberch or Wataru Endo could provide additional support if necessary. His comments conveyed confidence in the current group and downplayed the urgency portrayed in transfer rumors.
However, Slot acknowledged that his personal view may not fully align with that of the club’s recruitment department. He pointed out that Sporting Director Richard Hughes may be considering longer-term planning, even if the manager himself is not currently focused on the transfer market. This distinction indicates that while discussions may be happening behind the scenes, Slot is not actively pushing for January additions.
The backdrop to these comments is Liverpool’s previous interest in Marc Guehi, particularly during the summer window. With the defender’s contract entering its final months, speculation has intensified around a potential move. Nonetheless, based on Slot’s recent remarks and his confidence in the squad’s depth, a January transfer for Guehi appears unlikely at this stage.
