Rangers are hoping to seal the signing of Djeidi Gassama after a deal was agreed with Sheffield Wednesday.

The Gers have kick-started their summer business in the last few weeks, with several players walking through the doors at Ibrox.

Max Aarons, Nasser Djiga, Joe Rothwell, Emannuel Fernandez and Thelo Aasgaard are those to join so far, with more expected in the coming days.

And Gassama could be among them, with Russell Martin hoping to welcome the exciting winger to Glasgow.

Gassama deal finally sees progress

The deal for Gassama had already looked to be sealed in recent days, but Rangers fans were forced to wait while completion stalled.

The issue is reportedly due to the ongoing ownership trouble at Sheffield Wednesday.

Dejphon Chansiri has reportedly finally accepted an offer to sell the club to an interested buyer, after it emerged two weeks ago that wages were not being paid on time.

EFL charges have followed, and it now looks as if Wednesday fans will finally have a reason to be positive about the future of their club.

Chansiri was reportedly the cause of the hold-up on the Gassama deal, with everything completed except for the chairman’s signature.

But according to Joe Crann (11 July), the issues preventing the deal’s completion are now being ironed out, and Rangers are now likely to get their man.

Fans will hope that this could mean confirmation could arrive as soon as Saturday (12 July), with excitement to see the winger in action building.

Gassama will be a great addition for Rangers

Gassama joined Wednesday in 2023 from PSG after making just one appearance for the French giants.

With lightning-quick pace and superb ability to beat his man, the winger instantly looked to be a great signing for the Owls, scoring three and providing three in his opening season.

But this season saw Gassama take a step up, scoring eight goals in all competitions, including a stunning strike against Premier League side Brentford in the EFL Cup.

With a deal expected to get over the line imminently, it is clear to see that Rangers have secured a supremely talented player for very little cost.
