Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhães has shed light on his fitness status following his halftime substitution during Arsenal’s commanding 5-2 win over West Ham.

The Brazilian center-back had an action-packed first half, scoring Arsenal’s opening goal, conceding two in quick succession, and winning a crucial penalty converted by Bukayo Saka to regain control for the Gunners before the interval.

Arsenal dominated the opening half with an electrifying performance. Gabriel’s early goal was followed by strikes from Martin Ødegaard, Leandro Trossard, and Kai Havertz in a dazzling nine-minute spell that left West Ham scrambling.

Although the Hammers briefly rallied with goals from Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Emerson, Saka’s clinical finish restored Arsenal’s three-goal advantage, sealing the win and propelling them to second place in the Premier League standings.

However, Gabriel’s unexpected halftime departure raised concerns. With Thomas Partey and Mikel Merino already sidelined due to injuries, manager Mikel Arteta’s defensive options seemed worryingly thin.

Speculation initially suggested Gabriel suffered a head injury in a collision with West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

However, Arteta later revealed that the substitution was due to a flare-up of an earlier injury Gabriel sustained in Arsenal’s Champions League clash against Sporting CP.

Despite the apprehension, Gabriel reassured fans with a positive Instagram update.

Posting celebratory match photos, he wrote: “+3 and we continue fighting together!! Thanks for your support, Gunners!! See you on Wednesday!!”

His message hints at optimism regarding his availability for Arsenal’s upcoming showdown against Manchester United.

After the match, Gabriel was seen in high spirits, celebrating with teammates and showing no visible signs of distress.

While his substitution may have been precautionary given Arsenal’s congested fixture schedule, the defender’s social media post provides hope for his return in time to bolster the Gunners’ defense for the high-stakes Emirates Stadium clash.

As Arsenal prepares for one of their season’s most crucial matches, fans will be keeping a close eye on Gabriel’s recovery, eager to see their defensive stalwart back in action.
