Free agent in League One transfer talks after Stoke City exit

Lynden Gooch is in talks with Huddersfield Town, according to reports.

‌Website Football League World claim the Terriers want to make the American their latest addition to Lee Grant’s squad.

‌Versatile Gooch has spent last two years at Stoke City, making 53 appearances, with only 12 Championship starts coming last term.

‌The 29-year-old struggled to remain fit for periods in 2024/25 but when he did play it was mostly on the left-side of defence.

He was, however, released at the end of his contract and is now a free agent, one with more than 300 games under his belt, split between the Championship and League One.

Many of those came with Sunderland and he was part of the Black Cats squad which won promotion to the second tier in 2022, something Huddersfield are looking to emulate.

Town, who finished tenth last term in their first attempt to regain their Championship status, have already signed eight players icluding the likes of Ryan Ledson, Marcus Harness, Murray Wallace and Jack Whatmough.

Despite being born in California Gooch came through the youth set-up at Sunderland and made 246 appearances for them.
