Frank Lampard Set for Surprise Return to Management at Roma Amid Managerial Speculation
Frank Lampard, former Chelsea star and manager, is reportedly being considered for a managerial comeback at Serie A club AS Roma, a club that once hosted Jose Mourinho at the helm. The 46-year-old, who recently concluded a stint as interim manager at Chelsea in the 2023/24 season, may soon return to the dugout after months on the sidelines.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Lampard has emerged as a potential replacement for Roma’s current coach, Ivan Juric. Juric has struggled to make a strong start, with Roma losing four out of their first 10 games this season. The club, owned by the Friedkin Group, is exploring managerial options to stabilize their position, and reports suggest that close connections at Everton, where the Friedkin Group is reportedly interested in taking ownership, have recommended Lampard for the job.
Lampard’s recent years have been a mix of management and punditry. After a challenging year at Everton in 2022, where he successfully kept them in the Premier League, he rejoined Chelsea in an interim capacity but has since moved to regular appearances on BBC and Sky Sports, including commentary on Chelsea’s recent draw against Manchester United.
However, Lampard is not the only name on Roma’s radar. Former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini, recently dismissed as Saudi Arabia’s head coach, and Claudio Ranieri, who famously led Leicester to their Premier League title, are also being considered. Paulo Sousa, the well-traveled Portuguese coach currently with Shabab Al Ahli, is another possible candidate.
While discussions are ongoing, reports indicate that Lampard’s candidacy has “gained traction” among decision-makers at Roma. A final decision has yet to be made, but Lampard’s potential return to management could add a new chapter to his career.
