France: Deschamps Justifies Mbappé’s Surprising Absence Once Again!
Didier Deschamps has released his latest squad for the November international break, and once again, Kylian Mbappé is not on the list. The absence of France’s captain from two consecutive call-ups has left fans and media speculating. This decision, though, may be linked to Mbappé’s focus on preserving his fitness for major international events, especially with an eye on the 2025 Ballon d’Or.
In this break, France will face Israel and Italy in the Nations League, but the Real Madrid forward won’t be part of the action. Mbappé’s prior request to skip the last international break raised questions, especially since he’d played a full club match just days before. Controversy only deepened after he was seen at a nightclub in Stockholm and subsequently named in a complaint. Although the case hasn’t progressed, these off-field issues and Mbappé’s recent struggles at Real Madrid, particularly in his new role as a central striker, have kept him in the spotlight.
Deschamps Stands Firm Amidst Scrutiny
Despite various reports that Mbappé might return, Deschamps surprised everyone at the press conference, opting to exclude him yet again. Deschamps said, “I’ve discussed this with Kylian. After reflecting, I decided this was the best course for this gathering.” He quickly dismissed suggestions that the choice was due to Mbappé’s off-field issues, emphasizing that it was a “one-off decision for these matches.”
Seeking to shift attention, Deschamps highlighted that this window allows game time for newer players. “We’ve had three straight wins, and my priority is to secure top place,” he added, appearing less comfortable and somewhat evasive, a contrast to his usual press conferences.
Deschamps remained unyielding, downplaying Mbappé’s form at Real Madrid and the discussions around his performance as a number 9. “Everyone has their opinion, but Kylian’s qualities remain. My focus is on what’s best for the team,” Deschamps concluded. His remarks, coupled with the press conference’s reserved tone, may fuel more reactions and raise further questions about France’s captain’s future involvement.
