Former midfield target remains determined to join Barcelona in the future – “It is still a dream”
Garcia’s Transfer Speculations and Future Aspirations
Last season, there was considerable buzz regarding a potential move for Garcia to Barcelona. Despite the speculation, it appears that the interest from the Catalan club was not as substantial as it seemed. Garcia himself shed light on the situation during an interview with Jijantes.
Garcia revealed, “There were discussions between my agent and Deco, but Barcelona’s interest was not as significant as some might have thought. When Barcelona is serious about acquiring a player, they typically engage in intense negotiations.”
Before the first La Liga clash between Barcelona and Girona last season, Garcia faced criticism from his then-employers after expressing his aspiration to play for Barcelona. Despite this, his ambition to join the Blaugrana remains intact. Garcia shared, “I am content at Leverkusen, but playing for Barcelona is still a dream for me in the future.”
Garcia also addressed interest from West Ham United earlier in the summer. The Premier League club showed considerable enthusiasm in signing him, but he ultimately chose to move to Bayer Leverkusen. “West Ham did make an offer, as reported in the media, and their interest was genuine. They caught my attention, and Lopetegui reached out to me frequently. However, after helping Girona qualify for the Champions League, it was important for me to play in Europe’s premier competition, despite the attractive financial offers from the Premier League.”
As Garcia continues his career with Leverkusen, the allure of Barcelona and the possibility of Premier League football remain significant aspects of his future ambitions.
