Flick Holds Key Players Accountable After Barcelona’s Loss to Real Sociedad

Barcelona’s recent 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad in La Liga has left coach Hansi Flick fuming, despite his team’s continued hold on first place in the league standings. The loss, which leaves Barcelona with 33 points, came after a controversial match in which a disallowed goal by Robert Lewandowski further intensified the frustration among Barcelona fans and staff.
According to Spanish outlet *El Nacional*, Flick voiced his displeasure over what he perceived as a conspiracy to prevent Barcelona from maintaining its lead. He pointed fingers at the referee, blaming the official for the dropped points and urging club president Joan Laporta to step in and address what he called a deliberate effort to undermine the team’s position.
Flick also singled out defender Jules KoundĂ© for criticism, describing his performance as the worst of the season. The German coach stated that KoundĂ© was ineffective both defensively and offensively, which contributed to the team’s lackluster performance. Additionally, Flick expressed disappointment with Fermin LĂłpez, labeling him one of the worst performers on the field. He cited LĂłpez’s inability to step up in the absence of the injured Lamine Yamal as a major issue for the team’s lack of attacking creativity.
In contrast, Flick reserved praise for goalkeeper Iñaki Peña, who made several vital saves to keep Barcelona in the game. However, Peñaâs efforts were ultimately in vain as the team’s offensive struggles meant his work was not rewarded with a positive result.
Looking ahead, Flick made a bold decision regarding the teamâs lineup for upcoming matches. He informed his assistant that both Fermin LĂłpez and Frenkie de Jong would be dropped from the starting XI after the international break. In their place, Dani Olmo and Lamine Yamal are expected to feature, as Flick aims to shake things up and inject fresh energy into the squad.
The loss to Real Sociedad has raised questions about Barcelona’s consistency, and with crucial matches ahead, Flick’s decisions will be closely watched as he seeks to restore his team’s form.
