Ex-Bradford City assistant Glyn Hodges leaves Carlisle

MARK Hughes’ long-time assistant Glyn Hodges has left the former City boss at Carlisle.

The pair have worked together regularly for over 20 years – including their 20-month spell at Valley Parade.

But Carlisle, who have been relegated to the National League, today confirmed the departure of Hodges, just weeks after it was announced he would be staying on with Hughes.

Former Preston boss Frankie McAvoy has joined as first-team coach and there is a return in a similar position for Gavin Skelton, the former Carlisle coach once involved in a shoving match with Hughes when the Welshman was in charge of City.

Hodges told Carlisle’s club website: “After careful consideration, I’ve decided to step away from my current role.

“The commute has significantly impacted on my work-life balance, and I believe it’s time to prioritise a healthier daily routine, along with family commitments.

“I’m grateful for the experiences and opportunities I’ve been given by (owners) Tom, Patty and the Piatak family and wish them well, as well as Mark and the team for the coming season.”

Hodges was named the Wales under-21 manager under Hughes in 2004.

He then followed him to Blackburn and Manchester City as reserve boss. After a brief spell in a coaching role at Leeds, Hodges then re-joined Hughes at Fulham, QPR and Stoke.

They teamed up again when Hughes was appointed at the City helm in February 2022.
