Eder Militão Faces Surgery After Devastating Knee Injury
Real Madrid defender Eder Militão is set to undergo surgery tomorrow, November 19, to address a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and injuries to both menisci in his right knee. This marks another significant setback for the Brazilian international, who recently battled a similar injury.
Militão’s injury nightmare began on August 12, 2023, during Real Madrid’s La Liga opener against Athletic Bilbao, where he suffered a severe left knee injury. After a lengthy recovery, he returned to action on March 31, 2024—ironically against the same opponent. However, his resurgence was short-lived.
The latest injury occurred during a match against Osasuna just 10 days ago. In the 27th minute, while attempting a shot from a set piece, his knee locked up, causing him excruciating pain. Teammates and medical staff immediately intervened, and Militão left the pitch on a stretcher.
This is Militão’s second serious ligament injury in 15 months, now compounded by meniscus damage. Dr. Manuel Leyes, who performed his previous surgery in 2023, will oversee this operation as well. Recovery is expected to take approximately nine months, sidelining the defender for the remainder of the season.
Real Madrid faces a tough challenge ahead as they navigate their campaign without one of their key defensive pillars. Fans and teammates alike will be hoping for Militão’s full recovery and return to the pitch stronger than ever.
