Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership of Sheffield Wednesday has been labeled a disgrace amid a slight glimmer of hope at Hillsborough.

A major deadline is looming at the South Yorkshire club, after Chansiri failed to pay staff and player wages in May.

If the Thai businessman fails to pay this month’s wage bill by the end of Monday, 30 June, Sheffield Wednesday players will be able to leave on free transfers, regardless of their contract length, subject to a 15-day notice period.

Largely thanks to Chansiri’s financial mismanagement, boss Danny Rohl intends to leave the South Yorkshire outfit ahead of next season.

“It’s something, at least. As previously mentioned, not technically ‘late’ until tomorrow.”
