Cyriel Dessers ‘more likely to stay’ after Rangers transfer delay

The Scottish journalist believes that despite the delay in the Morocco international’s move to LOSC Lille, he may be the centre-forward to leave in the coming weeks.

While the Ligue 1 outfit want the 22-year-old striker and have agreed on personal terms with him, the Light Blues’ demands haven’t been met yet at Ibrox.

Speaking to Sky Sports Scotland on X (11 July), the journalist said: “If you were to ask me now who’s the more likely to stay out of the two, I would probably still say Dessers. Obviously, the Igamane move perhaps hasn’t developed as it looked like it was going to a couple of weeks ago.”

Martin can’t lose both Dessers and Igamane at Ibrox

Dessers is a controversial figure at Ibrox, with some fans wanting him gone, while others feel the Gers will find it hard to replace the centre-forward’s goal contributions.

The Nigerian ace was the Light Blues’ leading goalscorer last season, but his inconsistency has often left supporters frustrated.

Kavin Thelwell has an opportunity to cash in on Igamane this summer after the Glaswegian outfit signed him for a relatively meagre fee from AS FAR.

While the Moroccan youngster showed glimpses of his talent under Philippe Clement, Barry Ferguson didn’t seem to trust him.

It’s clear that the 22-year-old still has a lot to learn before cementing his place in the Gers’ starting lineup, and selling him for a hefty profit now seems like a no-brainer.

While Dessers may not be the Ibrox faithful’s first-choice number nine ahead of next season, Martin arguably won’t want to lose two of their centre-forwards without making multiple additions up front.

Only time will tell who the Scottish manager will have at his disposal in attack for the upcoming campaign.
