Current News and Rumours for Liverpool Today | Big Transfer Updates, Internal Disagreements, and Shocking Future Decisions at Anfield Revealed!

Liverpool’s summer continues to deliver headline after headline, with huge transfer updates, behind-the-scenes drama, and contract decisions that could shape the club’s future. From major signings to potential exits, here’s everything you need to know in today’s packed Anfield news roundup.
One of the standout stories surrounds Hugo Ekitike, who recently completed a blockbuster transfer to Liverpool from Paris Saint-Germain. The move, worth €95 million including bonuses, has stirred plenty of debate, given the lofty fee and the expectations that come with it. However, PSG insiders remain confident. In a quote to Le Journal du Dimanche, a club official stated, “I’m sure he’ll succeed at Liverpool,” emphasizing belief in the young French striker’s ability to thrive in the Premier League.
While Ekitike settles into life at Anfield, another internal saga played out behind closed doors involving a potential signing. Jorrel Hato, the young Dutch defensive prodigy now at Chelsea, was once considered a Liverpool target. According to The Daily Mail, Virgil van Dijk was fully on board, reportedly “raving” about the Ajax defender. But manager Arne Slot wasn’t convinced, and instead backed the move for Milos Kerkez, who is now Liverpool’s preferred option at left-back.
Hato, despite having visited Anfield earlier this year and seemingly having a smoother path to integrate due to Liverpool’s Dutch-heavy squad, opted for Chelsea. He has since signed a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge, adding further fuel to the Chelsea–Liverpool rivalry. The teenager cited that it was the “right time to move to England” after more than 100 appearances with Ajax.
Meanwhile, contract drama is unfolding around Ibrahima Konaté. The French defender had been the subject of strong interest from both Real Madrid and PSG, especially with just a year left on his Liverpool contract. Earlier reports even suggested he was planning to join Madrid on a free next summer. But now, a dramatic turnaround is unfolding. Journalist Abdellah Boulma has confirmed that Konaté is happy at Liverpool and has decided to stay. Talks for a contract extension are said to be progressing well, much to the relief of Reds fans.
In another high-profile chase, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak continues to be monitored closely. Liverpool reportedly made a £110 million bid for the Swedish striker, which was rejected. Isak, who trained alone at Real Sociedad’s facilities during Newcastle’s preseason tour, is believed to want a new challenge. However, Eddie Howe isn’t sure if the player will return to training anytime soon, stating after their draw against Tottenham: “Of course I’d like him to be [training], but whether he will I don’t know at this moment in time.”
This situation adds to growing uncertainty around Isak’s future, and with Liverpool in urgent need of elite attacking firepower, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them return with a bigger offer. But time is running short with the season fast approaching.
On the outgoing front, Darwin Núñez is now Al Hilal’s top target. After failed moves for Osimhen, Isak, and Sesko, the Saudi Arabian side is preparing an approach. The Athletic’s David Ornstein revealed that Al Hilal had already contacted Liverpool in June to understand Núñez’s valuation. With just 8 Premier League starts and 7 goals in 47 appearances last season, the Uruguayan’s future remains up in the air—especially with interest from the Middle East heating up.
As Liverpool look to balance their squad and trim any excess, potential sales like Luis Díaz, Harvey Elliott, or Núñez could pave the way for further reinforcements before the window slams shut.
From fresh signings and near-misses to evolving contract talks and big money bids, Anfield is at the center of one of the most thrilling transfer windows in recent years. With Arne Slot shaping a new era and FSG backing moves on multiple fronts, expect more surprises in the coming days.
