Coventry City to face AS Monaco in pre-season friendly

Coventry City are set to play AS Monaco in a pre-season friendly on their return to the UK from a week-long training camp in Portugal.

The Sky Blues get their warm-up preparations underway this weekend with a behind-closed-doors game, understood to be against Portuguese second tier side Portimonense, based in the Algarve, on Saturday.

Frank Lampard’s men then fly home straight afterwards before being given a couple of days off and then back to Ryton on Tuesday to continue their build-up work to the new season.

City will then make the short trip to the National Football Centre at St George’s Park – the training headquarters of the England national teams – to face Monaco, who finished third in the French Ligue 1 behind champions Paris Saint-Germain and runners up Marseille.

AS Monaco’s official website reports: “As part of their summer preseason, Adi Hütter’s Rouge et Blanc will face Coventry City FC (July 16), Nottingham Forest (July 19) and Arminia Bielefeld (July 26).

“After playing their first summer pre-season match behind closed doors against Cercle Bruges this Friday at the Performance Center, the men of Adi Hütter will then head to England, as they did two seasons ago, for a pre-season training camp.

“The Rouge et Blanc will be at St. George’s Park, the national football centre and home of the Three Lions, from July 13th to 19th. There, they will play another friendly match against Coventry City (EFL Championship) on Wednesday, July 16th at 6pm (French time), for the first time between the two teams.”

That is 5pm UK time. The fixture will not be open to the public, nor will it be available to be live streamed.

Coventry then travel to face League Two Bristol Rovers on Wednesday, July 23 (7pm) at the Memorial Stadium (ticket details here).

City will also entertain Real Betis at the CBS Arena on Wednesday, July 30 (7pm) and German side St Pauli on Saturday, August 2 (3.30pm). Ticket details here.
