CHEATED ARSENAL? Premier League Issues Two VAR Statements After Fulham vs Arsenal Drama
The Premier League has responded to protests from Arsenal fans following their 1-1 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage, releasing two VAR-related statements to address the controversial decisions.
Arsenal entered the game knowing a win could cut Liverpool’s lead to four points after the Reds’ game was postponed. However, a slow start saw Raul Jimenez give Fulham an early lead. Arsenal fought back in the second half, with William Saliba scoring a crucial equalizer in the 52nd minute.
VAR reviewed Saliba’s goal and allowed it to stand, confirming the defender was onside. But late in the match, controversy struck again. Bukayo Saka thought he had scored the winner, only for VAR to rule it out, citing Gabriel Martinelli’s offside position in the build-up.
The Premier League clarified the decisions through their Match Centre, stating:
- Saliba’s goal was checked and confirmed onside.
- Saka’s disallowed goal was the result of Martinelli’s offside position during the play.
Arsenal ultimately settled for a draw, a result that leaves them six points behind Liverpool in the title race. With the Reds holding a game in hand, the gap could widen to nine points, intensifying pressure on Mikel Arteta’s side.
For Arsenal fans, the late drama and VAR decisions continue to fuel debates about officiating standards in the Premier League.
