Celtic hero announces retirement from football aged 37

Celtic hero Beram Kayal has announced his decision to retire from professional football.

The midfielder, who won six trophies in Glasgow, called time on his playing career aged 37.

Kayal was first signed by Celtic in 2010 as he joined from his homeland club Maccabi Haifa in a deal worth in the region of £1.2m

Kayal would spend five years in Scotland with Celtic, where he won the league title on four occasions and lifted the Scottish Cup twice.

He was named in the SPFA SPL Team of the Year for his efforts in the 2010-11 season.

Kayal, who played 47 times for Israel, would then move to Brighton and Hove Albion for an undisclosed fee. He helped the club gain promotion to the Premier League as runners-up in the Championship in 2016-17.

He would spend a season out on loan at Charlton in 2019-20 before heading back to Israel to play the rest of his career at Bnei Sakhnin.

On Thursday, July 10, Kayal posted on his Instagram, confirming he would retire as he shared a montage of his highlights throughout his career.
