Callum Wilson Wants Coventry Return – But Lampard Unconvinced Over Injury Concerns
Coventry City have been offered a sensational opportunity to re-sign former academy star Callum Wilson – but manager Frank Lampard is reportedly hesitant to pursue the deal due to concerns over the striker’s injury record.
Wilson, 33, is understood to be open to a return to the club where his professional career began. After a successful spell with Bournemouth and more recently with Newcastle United, the England international is now weighing up his next move following limited game time in the Premier League last season.
Sources close to the player claim Wilson has a strong emotional attachment to Coventry and sees a return as a chance to give back to the club that helped launch his career. However, Frank Lampard is said to be prioritising fitness and reliability in his summer recruitment, especially as the Sky Blues look to build a squad capable of mounting a serious promotion challenge.

“Wilson has been offered to Coventry,” one insider told European Lad. “He wants to come back – he’s ready. But Lampard isn’t fully convinced. There’s hesitation around his injury history and whether he can keep up with the pace of the Championship.”
Wilson has battled several injuries in recent years, including hamstring and calf problems that have limited his playing time. Despite this, he remains a proven goalscorer when fit, and fans are already voicing their support for the club legend’s potential return.
Coventry’s decision could come down to whether Lampard is willing to take a calculated risk – bringing back a fan favourite who could deliver goals and experience, but who may also spend time on the sidelines.
