“I hope there is still a Premier League move for him this summer,” Mikel said in a revealing chat with Metro UK. “The likes of Arsenal and Manchester United still need a striker.”

Mikel, a Chelsea icon in his own right, lamented the club’s decision to pass on Osimhen once again. Chelsea were long believed to be the frontrunners for his signature, especially after Osimhen admitted to supporting the Blues as a child. But that dream has seemingly died with the arrival of young forward Liam Delap from Ipswich Town.

Delap’s signing, coupled with the continued presence of Nicolas Jackson, signals that Chelsea are set on developing a younger frontline. Mikel doesn’t agree with the decision.

“Arsenal may be close, but they need a proper No. 9. As for United… Højlund works hard, but I don’t think he’s the guy who gets you 25+ goals in a season,” Mikel said.

“But we want to see him in the Champions League,” he added. “So maybe Arsenal might be the destination. Maybe there’s a door open there.”

Arsenal, who have steadily climbed under Mikel Arteta’s leadership, are building a team capable of domestic dominance and European success. The addition of a striker like Osimhen could turn them from contenders to champions.

“I won’t say much about our conversations,” Mikel teased, “but he is working to make sure he ends up in a top, top European league.”
