Aston Villa’s Monchi firmly involved to save club – Working hard to convince owners

Aston Villa director of football Monchi is directly involved in efforts to save his boyhood club San Fernando from oblivion.

That’s according to José Antonio Mainé, representative of the club’s United Association of Shareholders, who has confirmed the Aston Villa director of football’s direct involvement in efforts to El Cierre Digital.

We covered a report last week that stated Monchi was seen as the potential salvation for San Fernando, who risk being eradicated by their current ownership.

They were recently relegated from the Second RFEF to the Third, the fifth level in Spain and the lowest point in the club’s history. It’s led the current ownership led by Louis Kinziger to announce that they want to sell to sell.

However, he and his group MTM Investments Spain Holdco S.L.U have rejected offers to buy the club from various investment groups and are instead pushing for a dissolution of the club instead. Why this is, hasn’t been made clear as yet.

Mainé, alongside others, are now trying desperately to save the club and have turned to Monchi, currently at Aston Villa, to help them to do so.

And according to Mainé he is fully involved in the process, with the representative even claiming he could take over in future.

“I know he’s doing everything possible. I know this because I’m in contact with him practically every day, looking for solutions,” he said of the Aston Villa director.

“The current owners don’t want to sell, and it’s not known why. They advocate for the dissolution of the team, despite the fact that there are quite a few investment groups, between 12 and 14, who want to take over the club. We don’t know if it’s because they have unfinished business or out of revenge.

“What Monchi offered primarily was his performance, to manage the club himself. I know he wasn’t going to ask for a single penny, and the goal was to try to regain the top spot in the RFEF.

“A joint press conference between representatives of small shareholders and Monchi was planned to make it clear that he’s ready for whatever comes next.

“Monchi is currently in an enviable position, at a major European club. You have to understand everything, you have to take advantage of your years at the top. It’s always been known that he wanted to end up managing his hometown team, and I know he intends to do so.”
