Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool given major hope in transfer race for Borussia Dortmund star

The race to sign Borussia Dortmund’s young star Jamie Bynoe-Gittens has taken a new twist, with the Bundesliga giants refusing to rule out a potential departure for the talented winger this summer. This news has breathed fresh life into the hopes of Premier League giants Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool, all of whom have been closely monitoring the player’s situation.

Bynoe-Gittens, 20, has enjoyed a steady rise to prominence since swapping Manchester City for Dortmund in 2022. His time in Germany has seen him evolve into one of the most exciting young wingers in European football, thanks to his pace, directness, and flair in one-on-one situations. Despite a strong first half of the season, the England U21 international has found himself increasingly sidelined in recent months under manager Niko Kovac.

Frustrated with his reduced role, Bynoe-Gittens is reportedly weighing his options as the transfer window approaches. German reports from April suggested that the winger was ‘planning his next career move’, adding fuel to speculation that a switch back to the Premier League could be on the cards.

Dortmund’s stance on the youngster appears to be shifting. In January, the club reportedly slapped a €100 million (£84m) price tag on Bynoe-Gittens to fend off potential suitors. However, sporting director Sebastian Kehl has now hinted that the club could lower their demands, particularly in light of their desire to reduce the club’s wage bill.

Speaking on Sport1’s Doppelpass show, Kehl said: “There’s definitely a market for him. He’s a very exciting player. We’ll be having discussions soon. If offers come in, we’ll have to deal with them.” Those words have been interpreted in England as a clear green light for interested clubs to prepare bids.

The winger, who has scored eight goals and provided three assists in the Bundesliga this season, has only been outscored at the club by Serhou Guirassy (21 goals). His productivity at just 20 years of age speaks volumes about his potential to be a key player at the highest level.

Bynoe-Gittens’ journey began at Reading before joining Manchester City’s academy. Despite his promise, he never made a first-team appearance for City, instead moving to Dortmund at 16. Inspired by the success stories of Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham, he saw Germany as a better platform to fast-track his development.

That bet has largely paid off. He’s made regular appearances in the Bundesliga and European competitions, and has earned 11 caps for England at the Under-21 level. But with increased competition for places and Dortmund’s financial motivations, this summer could be the right time for both club and player to part ways.

Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool are all understood to be keen. Mikel Arteta has long been an admirer of explosive wide players who can beat their man, while Chelsea’s focus on young, high-ceiling talents fits the profile perfectly. Liverpool, meanwhile, could see Bynoe-Gittens as part of their squad refresh under Arne Slot, who is keen to put his own stamp on the team.

Dortmund are also expected to undergo a significant squad overhaul this summer. In addition to Bynoe-Gittens, the futures of players such as Giovanni Reyna, Julian Brandt, Niklas Sule, and Salih Ozcan are also reportedly up in the air. Kehl confirmed that Dortmund are planning changes and trimming salaries as part of a broader restructuring.

“We want to reduce wages,” Kehl explained. “That said, it’s possible that we will continue with some of these players. But some may no longer be part of the BVB squad next season.”

Bynoe-Gittens remains under contract at the Westfalenstadion until June 2028, giving Dortmund a strong bargaining position. However, if the player’s desire to leave grows stronger and the right offer arrives, the club may be willing to strike a deal, especially if it helps them reshape their squad and finances.
