Anelka Backs Mbappé: Patience is Key
Former Real Madrid striker Nicolas Anelka has come to the defense of Kylian Mbappé, who has faced criticism since his high-profile move to the Spanish giants. Anelka, who experienced similar challenges during his time at Madrid, emphasized the need for patience and understanding.
“We’re asking him to change clubs, countries, and teammates, and become a number 9 in just a few months. It’s unrealistic. We need to be patient,” Anelka stated.
The French legend also highlighted the significant difference between playing as a winger and a striker. Mbappé, known for his blistering pace and direct running, is adapting to a more positional role that demands different skills.
“Everyone thinks it’s easy for a winger to become a number 9, but they’re completely different roles. Mbappé’s game is based on speed and space, but as a number 9, he often has his back to goal and faces two defenders. This transition takes time,” Anelka explained.
Anelka also acknowledged the immense psychological pressure on Mbappé, drawing parallels to his own experiences as a young player. He stressed the importance of managing expectations and allowing the young star to develop without undue stress.
Despite the current challenges, Anelka remains optimistic about Mbappé’s future at Real Madrid. He believes that under the guidance of Carlo Ancelotti, Mbappé can rediscover his best form and become a key player for the club.
