£50m star now ‘very high’ on Newcastle’s radar after missing out on Joao Pedro deal

Newcastle United are now becoming increasingly attentive to Harvey Elliott’s situation at Liverpool, TBR Football can reveal.

So far this summer, Eddie Howe has watched NewcastleNewcastle wanted to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford but were ultimately put off by the Frenchman’s asking price.

And it was a similar tale with Chelsea-bound Joao Pedro.

Newcastle refused to pay £60m for Pedro despite how much they admired the Brighton & Hove Albion forward.

But as Newcastle continue to work on potential targets, Harvey Elliott has emerged as someone ‘very high’ on the club’s radar.

Graeme Bailey, TBR Football chief correspondent, understands that Newcastle were considering a move for Elliott prior to news of Liverpool making him available this summer.

Elliott has made it clear to Liverpool that he now wants to play first-team football having seen his chances become somewhat limited under Arne Slot last term.

And even before Elliott’s sparkling performances at the U21 Championships with England this summer, there was a lot of interest in the 22-year-old’s signature.

TBR Football shared last week that Newcastle were monitoring Elliott’s situation among a host of Premier League sides, and Howe’s side are now ready to make a push.

Elliott would cost interested clubs more than £40m this summer and Liverpool would like to recoup £50m for the former Fulham man.

In addition to interest within England, RB Leipzig are considering a move for Elliott, a move somewhat inspired by former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

As mentioned, Elliott was outstanding as England retained their U21 crown in Slovakia over the summer.

And even before his heroics in the final against Germany, England U21 manager Lee Carsley showered Elliott in praise, who he called ‘outstanding’.

Prior to the final, Carsley said: “Harvey has been outstanding. He’s one of many who has stood up.

“They’re developing as a team and it’s just a shame we only have one game left because I think this team is outstanding.”

Unfortunately, Elliott hasn’t been able to step into a maverick-like role for Liverpool given all the stars already at Arne Slot’s disposal.

But perhaps that could now be to Newcastle’s advantage, who could still make good of a disappointing start to the transfer window.
