29-year-old in talks over Saudi Arabia switch after Norwich City exit

Norwich City let go of goalkeeper Angus Gunn earlier this summer and now, as per Al-Youm, he is in talks over a move to Al-Khaleej in Saudi Arabia.

Norwich City are going through a summer of change as they look to bridge the gap to the play-offs. NCFC are under the lead of Liam Manning, who was snapped up from Bristol City after Johannes Hoff Thorup’s sacking.

The Canaries have continued to spend well as they back Manning, signing Mathias Kvistgaarden, Jacob Wright, Vladan Kovacevic, Jakov Medic, Harry Darling, Daniel Grimshaw and Louie Moulden to date.

To pave way for such signings, several saw exits sanctioned at the end of their contracts. Among those moved on was Angus Gunn, who is now a free agent.

After his Father and Norwich City legend Bryan Gunn shared the ‘keeper was taking his time over options and holding talks, it has now been claimed that discussions over a move to Saudi Arabia have been held.

As cited by the Daily Record (Transfer news live, 09/07/25, 20:13), Saudi news outlet Al-Youm have reported Al-Khaleej have made contact with 29-year-old Gunn in the wake of his NCFC exit.

Gunn has options as a free agent, with Everton also rumoured to be on his trail.

Decision time for Gunn

After moving on from Norwich City, Gunn seems to have some decent options on the table.

Some Championship goalkeepers earn moves to higher leagues to serve as cover and competition, and a move to Everton would bring just that for the Scot. He would be behind Jordan Pickford in the pecking order, and opportunities would likely be limited to cup competitions.

However, if there is an offer tabled from Saudi Arabia, Gunn could go and pick up a sizeable wage. That is sure to be tempting, as it would be for any player.

It would not be a surprise if he had options to remain a Championship number one either, though concrete links are yet to emerge.

A necessary move for Norwich City goalkeeper makeover

Gunn has proven to be a steady goalkeeper in his time at Norwich City, but Manning arrived and quickly set about completely revamping his goalkeeping ranks.

With an overhaul of the department deemed necessary by Manning, it only made sense to wipe the slate completely clean, sanctioning exits for several players while bringing three new ‘keepers in.

Not all shot-stoppers have departed yet with Vicente Reyes, George Long and Daniel Barden still on the books. However, with Kovacevic, Grimshaw and Moulden all onboard now, it will expected that those on the fringes see departures accelerate now.
