Real Madrid’s Transfer Plans and Squad Strategy for the 2024-25 Season

Real Madrid’s pursuit of Leny Yoro, a promising young defender, ended in disappointment as he joined Manchester United last week. Despite this setback, the club’s current strategy does not include signing another center-back to fill the void left by Nacho Fernandez’s departure. According to Diario AS, Real Madrid’s sporting department has decided against any further major acquisitions at this time.
The club’s transfer focus is now on a couple of potential moves: Kepa Arrizabalaga might be signed if Andriy Lunin exits, and a low-cost central defender could be brought in if a suitable option becomes available. However, if neither of these scenarios materializes, Real Madrid will proceed into the 2024-25 season with a squad of just 22 first-team players.
This streamlined squad will face a demanding season, competing across six different competitions. These include domestic and international fixtures, as well as the new 32-team Club World Cup, which is set to take place next summer. Real Madrid’s decision to maintain a leaner squad could be a strategic move, but it will place added pressure on Carlo Ancelotti’s team to manage their resources effectively throughout the season.
