Barcelona Launch Surprising Pursuit of Crystal Palace Captain Marc Guehi

Barcelona have intensified their efforts to secure Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, making two formal approaches to the player’s representatives in the past fortnight. The moves are seen as a strategic attempt to undermine Liverpool and strengthen their defensive options ahead of the next season.

With Guehi’s contract set to expire in June 2026, Barcelona can begin pre-contract negotiations from January 1. Sources indicate that Deco, Barcelona’s director of football, considers the England international a cost-effective and intelligent addition to a squad in need of defensive reinforcements.

In a recent interview with SER Catalunya, Deco acknowledged Guehi’s potential, describing him as “a good player” while emphasizing Barcelona’s cautious approach to the transfer market. He highlighted the club’s confidence in its young squad and La Masia graduates, which provides flexibility in pursuing new signings.

Behind the scenes, Barcelona are reportedly running a “charm offensive” to attract Guehi, showcasing the appeal of LaLiga football and the opportunity to play alongside promising talents like Pau Cubarsí. The club is also emphasizing its consistent presence in the Champions League as a key draw for the England international.

Although Barcelona face financial constraints, a January approach remains possible, with any offer expected to be around €20 million (£17m). The club appears determined to secure Guehi, viewing him as a strategic addition to their defensive lineup.
