Video: Why Salah Was Furious with Diaz and Jota in Extra-Time Against Fulham
Liverpool’s determination to snatch a last-minute winner against Fulham on Saturday was evident.
However, their overzealous approach may have cost them crucial points in the tightly contested Premier League title race.
The Reds, despite the frustrating 2-2 draw, remain top of the table with a five-point cushion over second-placed Chelsea.
Additionally, Arsenal’s failure to win at home against Everton leaves Liverpool with an opportunity to extend their lead to nine points, provided they win their game in hand.
While there’s plenty of reason for optimism, Mohamed Salah’s visible frustration late in the game tells a different story.
The Egyptian winger was left fuming at teammates Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota during extra-time.
Footage widely shared on social media, particularly by @CF_Compss, highlights Salah’s clear frustration as both players overlooked him in crucial moments when he was unmarked in the box.
The clip shows Luis Diaz receiving the ball in a promising position, with Salah positioned perfectly inside the six-yard area.
Rather than passing, Diaz chose to hold onto possession, squandering the opportunity.
Moments later, Diogo Jota, despite scoring Liverpool’s second equalizer earlier in the match, opted to shoot under pressure, sending the ball over the bar while Salah remained open and signaling for a pass.
Salah’s visible anger was justified, as those moments could have sealed all three points for Liverpool.
“HOW do you not pass the ball to Salah in this situation?” one fan tweeted alongside the viral footage.
Salah Hits Career Milestone Despite Frustration
Despite the late-game frustration, Mohamed Salah hit a major milestone by assisting Cody Gakpo’s first equalizer against Fulham.
That assist marked his 100th career assist for Liverpool, cementing his place among the best playmakers in Europe.
Since joining Liverpool in 2017, Salah has been a consistent provider, with only Kevin De Bruyne, Thomas Muller, and Lionel Messi recording more assists across Europe’s top five leagues during that period.
- Kevin De Bruyne: 132 assists
- Thomas Muller: 118 assists
- Lionel Messi: 108 assists
As Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, prepares for potential future contract talks, this milestone will undoubtedly strengthen his case.
Liverpool will now turn their focus to the Carabao Cup clash against Southampton, aiming to shake off the disappointment and reinforce their dominance at the top of the Premier League table.
