🚨BREAKING: The Premier League has issued a statement regarding the disallowed goal scored by Bukayo Saka for Arsenal during the match against Fulham.
The Premier League’s Match Centre has addressed the key officiating calls during Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Fulham, including William Saliba’s equalizer and Bukayo Saka’s disallowed late goal.
Saliba’s crucial goal came early in the second half when the French defender expertly turned in Kai Havertz’s effort from close range. Fulham players immediately protested, arguing that Saliba was in an offside position. However, VAR confirmed that Fulham’s Antonee Robinson had narrowly played Saliba onside, ensuring the goal stood.
A Premier League statement clarified, “The referee’s decision to award the goal was reviewed and upheld by the Video Assistant Referee, as Saliba was adjudged to be onside.”
The match began with Fulham seizing an early lead through Raul Jimenez. Despite Arsenal’s dominance in possession, Mikel Arteta’s side was unable to capitalize further, leaving the game tied at full-time.
This result sees Arsenal six points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, who did not play over the weekend due to the postponement of their Merseyside derby against Everton. Chelsea, meanwhile, leapfrogged Arsenal in the standings following their victory over Tottenham.
Defending champions Manchester City, two points behind Arsenal, also dropped points in their 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace. Manager Pep Guardiola has acknowledged the growing challenges his squad faces this season.
The draw raises questions about Arsenal’s ability to sustain their title push, with critical fixtures looming.
