Guardiola Admits City’s Title Hopes Fading
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has conceded that his side’s Premier League title defense is on the brink of collapse.
Following a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, Guardiola acknowledged that the gap to league leaders Liverpool could prove too significant to overcome.
“Liverpool are consistently achieving success,” Guardiola said. “In the end, if we don’t win the title, it’s because we don’t deserve it. We must now focus on Feyenoord, and then gradually improve.”
City’s defensive vulnerabilities have been exposed in recent matches, with the team conceding multiple goals in consecutive games. Guardiola admitted that his side is currently struggling to cope with the pressure and the demanding schedule.
“We are defensively vulnerable,” he said. “We started the game well, but we couldn’t score, and then we conceded. We must now experience this and break it by winning the upcoming games.”
Despite the setback, Guardiola remains optimistic about his team’s ability to turn things around. However, he recognizes the challenges ahead and the need for a significant improvement in performance.
“The players are angry, but there are times when the opponent is better, and you’re not good enough in certain areas,” he said. “We must rely on the fundamental principles that we strongly believe in.”
