Liverpool Blow: £35m Deal for Harvey Elliott on Brink of Collapse

Liverpool Set to Miss Out on £35m as Harvey Elliott Loan Hits Major Snag
Liverpool could be facing a major setback as Harvey Elliott’s loan spell at Aston Villa is on the verge of collapse, potentially costing the Reds a £35million fee.
The 22-year-old joined Villa on a season-long loan from Liverpool in September, a deal that included an obligation to buy, along with sell-on and buy-back clauses. However, Elliott has struggled for game time, featuring in just five matches and scoring once, with his last appearance a brief four-minute cameo in October’s Europa League clash against Feyenoord.
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has confirmed the club is exploring options for Elliott ahead of the January transfer window. Speaking ahead of Villa’s Europa League tie with Basel, Emery said: “We are speaking with him about his situation… hopefully we can find the best solution for him and for us. He is training well, but we need him to play consistently to continue his career.”
The loan deal included an obligation to buy, which would only activate once Elliott made ten appearances. With the midfielder currently on just five, Liverpool now face the real possibility of missing out on the expected £35million transfer fee.
Elliott could return to Anfield in January, but FIFA regulations limit players to representing only two clubs in a single season. This means the former England U21 international might have to explore options in leagues with different calendars, such as MLS, if he hopes to play before the season ends.
For Liverpool head coach Arne Slot, Elliott’s return could provide a timely boost, but the uncertainty around the midfielder’s future remains a major concern for both the player and the club.
